Developing Your Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Toolkit: Defusion Grab Bag

The series:  This workshop is part of a series of two-hour workshops sponsored by Portland Psychotherapy that are intended to provide practical tools that therapists can immediately use in their practices. Each workshop covers a single topic or exercise and the presenter will follow a similar outline consisting of four parts: 1) a brief didactic introduction to that night’s topic, 2) a demonstration of the technique, 3) time for participants to practice the technique in small groups, and 4) a closing discussion in the larger group. The workshops will be active, focused, and above all -- practical.

This workshop: Singing thoughts, repeating words, metaphors galore, all are examples of a core ACT technique called defusion. Take some time out of your day to learn, expand, or refine your defusion skills. This workshop promises to not only be informative, but a lot of fun! Participants will learn and practice some of “classic” defusion techniques. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to generate their own or tailor defusion techniques to best meet their needs. Have a blast defusing from your own thoughts as you practice defusion with others!
