A Dharma Life: The Key Insights of a Buddhist Monk w/ Venerable Viveka

A Dharma Life: the Key Insights of a Buddhist MonkThe Venerable Viveka went forth as a fully ordained Theravadan Buddhist monk in 2013, and has spent the majority of the past six years in Myanmar, engaged in intensive meditation. In this talk, he will speak to the heart of the Buddha's liberation teachings, not just in a theoretical way, but towards the ones that have deeply impacted his life, as well as those of countless others for the past 2600 years. The format for the evening will include a period of gently guided meditation, followed by a dharma talk, and plenty of time for Q & A. This evening will be offered completely by donation, and all are welcome to attend. As a Theravadan monk, the Venerable Viveka lives entirely off the generosity of others, and does not handle money. All donations will help pay for the rental of the facility, and go towards the basic transportation costs and requisites involved with his visit to Portland. *No need to register below - just show up - no RSVP required *Bio:Born in 1976, Venerable U Viveka began exploring meditation in his youth, though his interest grew considerably in 2002 when he completed his first intensive retreat: a 10 day Vipassana retreat in the style of S.N. Goenka. Over the next decade, he explored several different monastic traditions of Buddhism, including the Thai Forest tradition of Ajahn Chah, the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, and the Mahasi tradition of Myanmar. Finally, in 2013 he ordained as a Theravadan monk in Myanmar with his current teacher, Sayadaw U Tejaniya. During his several years of intensive meditation practice in Myanmar, he also completed a one year samatha retreat under the guidance of Pa-Auk Sayadaw. Currently, Venerable U Viveka is traveling through North America. His primary interest is to continue practicing, learning and sharing (when it is requested of him) these teachings on wisdom, inner freedom and true happiness.
