      EVENT DETAILS
      Gaian Mind Psychedelic Conference

Terence McKenna once said, “Either we are becoming more sensitive to the presence of the Gaian Mind, or the Gaian Mind, under pressure of the approaching apocalyptic crisis, is beginning to raise its voice, louder and louder and louder, so that now, when you go into nature, every rock, every tree, every stream is saying: Awaken, awaken! Come to focus!” As many of us have come to realize, psychedelics can serve as aids in this awakening.  After nearly a century of ignorant authoritarianism, a new era of psychedelia blossoms on the horizon. More and more people are discovering for themselves the transformative power of these extraordinary plants and fungi – better still, even government agencies, once rigid and myopic in their understanding of these medicines, have started to turn around.  In recognition of this shift and desire to propel this movement forward, we at Psanctum Psychedelia are thrilled to bring an exceptional cadre of speakers to Portland Oregon this summer!  The Gaian Mind Psychedelic Conference would like to welcome an international assembly of some of the best voices in the psychedelic Renaissance to share their knowledge, insights, and hope for a better tomorrow. Joël Karamdeep Singh Brierre began his relationship with psychedelics as a teenager in an exploratory manner. Marveling at the chance to explore the unexplored, Joël began training with Curanderos in Peru in 2001 where he further pursued these heightened states of awareness. Eventually shifting his focus into a deep and devoted yoga practice, he began teaching yoga and meditation and soon moved on to India to study in an ashram setting in Rishikesh. From there he traveled all around the world, soaking up knowledge and sharing what he’d learned. He was reintroduced to plant medicine in 2009 while living in the Caribbean, and began to incorporate them into his yoga practice. With this combination of knowledge, Joël now leads retreats and workshops around the world on the plant medicine and yoga connection. With over 10 years of teaching and multiple teacher trainings, Joël is certified at 500 ERYT. Joël mainly works with the venom of the Bufo Alvarius toad, which contains the compound 5-MeO-DMT. This compound is said to be one of the most powerful entheogens on the planet, allowing participants to experience a non-dual state of awareness in which they cease to view reality as an individual and are completely absorbed into the infinite. Joël believes the toad medicine’s effect of a non-dual experience is congruent with the Samadhi states that can be attained through yoga. Using the wisdom from Vedantic Scripture to map out the paths to reach and return from these states, he assists individuals through pre and post integration.  Joël has also structured an eight limbed path of integration that is directly based off of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. He is also an avid mushroom hunter and spends a good deal of time in the woods connecting with nature and enjoying her mycelial fruits. As a cultural critic and researcher, he also spends time exploring important mysteries, such as the Bigfoot phenomenon and UFOs, mostly exploring the psychology of those who pursue this field and the cultural meaning behind its relevance. A self-proclaimed iconoclastic oneironautic psychonaut, he also spends time exploring his dreams and consciousness and all of its abilities by experimenting with altered states, active imagination, and lucid dreaming.
