KINETIC INTEGRATIONS EXERCISE PROFESSIONALS (KIEP) CERTIFICATION Movement Resolutions Through Attractor State Changes Lower Quarter and Trunk Short Description This Kinetic Integrations workshop is designed for health and exercise professionals seeking to broaden their theoretical knowledge and practical skills on how to resolve movement changes associated with injury, a sedentary lifestyle, repetitive movement, overtraining or incorrect movement patterns. This workshop will teach you the science behind these problems while equipping you with the practical skills to help your clientele tomorrow. Dynamic Systems Theory In the performance and rehabilitation industry there recently has been an interest in the so-called Dynamic Systems Theory (DST) and its Attractor State concept. This means that one elemental change within the human movement system will result in changing the whole system. For example, low back pain changes gait patterns and postural positioning ( and variability of the running gait cycle in trained vs untrained runners differs ( The KI methodology is deeply rooted in the Dynamic Systems Theory concepts. As a species, we prefer stable, coordinated, and energy efficient state. This state is known within the DST as Attractor State. Herein, attractor is defined as a stable state of the motor control system that leads to a preferred coordination pattern. For example, walking on a treadmill that gradually increases speed. When the treadmill velocity reaches a critical point, there is a shift in movement - a shift from walking to jogging. No central nervous system command, or motor learning is needed to make that movement pattern change. KI uses the Attractor based exercises to correct faulty movement patterns for its populations. Learning Objectives Participants will understand the science and concepts related to the Kinetic Integrations movement management model and the Dynamic Systems Theory Attractor State. Participants will understand how the Kinetic Integrations exercises can be applied to augment athletic performance and injury. Participants will understand the principles of the Kinetic Integrations movement evaluations and exercise interventions and its scientific evidence. Participants will learn to make appropriate decisions for the implementation of the proposed Kinetic Integrations management model and its techniques. Participants will master the proposed movement assessments, exercises and reconditioning techniques related to the Kinetic Integrations model. The Instructor Guido Van Ryssegem, MS, ATC, CSCS, NBFE, RN. Guido Van Ryssegem has been in clinical practice for 36 years and has been working in the strength and conditioning field for 26 years. Guido has a wide range of expertise including his own movement dysfunctions restoration system, his movement variability, proprioception, sensorymotor, applied motor control and motor learning certifications for the health and exercise professional. He is a lecturer at national and international universities, as also private institutions. He has published in international journals and is a reviewer for the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation. He is a guest presenter for EXOS, the Perform Better summits and MedBridge Education. He has presented for the National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National, Regional and State Conferences. Guido has been a keynote speaker at the ACSM Exercise is Medicine, the Bangkok 6th Institute of Physical Education International Conference, the Korean Major League Baseball Conference and their Exercise Science Conference. He has practiced for the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, the Baltimore Orioles professional baseball teams and Oregon State University. Guido was active within the NSCA as the coordinator for their Northwest Region and has served on committees. Within the NATA he has been active on committees, and national task forces. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine as well as an Advisory Committee Member of the Rehab 2 Performance, the Korean Olympic Training Center and the Korean Sports Academy. Guido is also the Chief Product Officer of Elevation Fitness (, an online exercise database management system, and is the director of the China Sports Medicine and Performance Academy.
