PDX Lunch & Learn: Organic Intelligence - Applying Math and Computers to Data to Tell a Story about the Human Experience

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere, it's in the common vernacular, and you can't hide from it, especially if you browse today's tech media. But what exactly IS it? How has it changed recently, and why is it popular now? Is it going to take over, like SkyNet and the Terminator? Well, we believe that it's not as mysterious or threatening as it might seem, nor is it as "artificial" as the name implies. Humans invented AI, and we continue to refine it every day based on our eyes, hands, intuition, and intellect. We believe it's all about applying math and computers to data to tell a story about the human experience. If we all understood AI and its boundaries better, then we might not be as confused or intimidated about what it is, and we could start to put it to work in our business. Technology Association of Oregon invite you to a Lunch & Learn where Corios President Robin Way will pull back the covers on AI, break it into bite-size chunks, and we'll get the audience involved in some interactive exercises to make it more approachable and practical. You'll leave with a more tangible understanding, some laughs, and possibly the starter kit for incorporating AI in your own business processes. PRESENTERRobin Way, President - CoriosRobin Way is a faculty member at the International Institute for Analytics and is the founder and President of the management analytics consultancy Corios, based in downtown Portland. He is the author of "Skate Where the Puck’s Headed: A Playbook for Scoring Big With Predictive Analytics". He has over 30 years of experience in the design, development, execution, and improvement of applied analytics models for clients in the financial services, manufacturing, and energy industries. In his spare time, Robin plays soccer and lacrosse and holds a black belt in taekwondo. WHO SHOULD ATTENDThe conversation will be most relevant for area tech and business executives who have more questions than answers about this field of artificial intelligenceABOUT CORIOS Big Data may feel like the next big thing, but it’s been around for a long time. As widely adopted as the field of analytics has become, the practices and frameworks that it employs are as arcane, fragmented and undisciplined as they are exciting. At Corios, we’re demystifying and democratizing this process. Beyond analysis and execution, we believe that a common language and transparent understanding of the analytical process is essential for business success. We’re moving away from the mystical – making big data analytics simple, approachable, and implementable for both analysts and decision makers.
